The Bass Pro Shops Night Race is the finale of the Round of 16 which will eliminate four drivers
BASS PRO SHOPS NIGHT RACE PRERACE NOTES
CARS TO THE REAR: Corey Lajoie (unapproved adjustments), Bubba Wallace (unapproved adjustments, JJ Yeley for a driver change, and three Joe Gibbs Racing cars (Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, and Erik Jones for twice failing prerace inspection. Alex Bowman also failed inspection and will go to the back for the start of the race.
RUMOR: Bob Pockrass from NASCAR on FOX reports that Germain Racing is selling its charter, and Denny Hamlin could be the highest bidder (with possible help from basketball legend Michael Jordan). Hamlin could then field his own Cup Series team with Darrell “Bubba” Wallace driving a Toyota entry. “I can’t comment on any of that stuff,” Hamlin said before the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. “If you all have anything for tonight’s race, I’m free to answer, but I don’t have anything to announce. We’re not really talking about anything beyond that tonight.” Close to the truth?
MORE ON GERMAIN RACING: The No. 13 team is losing its longtime primary sponsor (Geico) at the end of the season, and owner Bob Germain said two weeks ago that “everything is on the table” when it comes to 2021, including a possible sale. The charter may be the first indication that Germain Racing will not be around when the new season opens next February.
FROM AP POOL REPORT: Bristol Motor Speedway permitted 30,000 fans to attend Saturday night’s race, and all tickets sold in advance.
LEFTOVER FROM THURSDAY NIGHT: Former Cup Series driver Trevor Bayne had a yo-yo night in the Gander Trucks UNOH 200. He finished fifth, by far his best result since his return to NASCAR. But after the race, his No. 45 Niece Motorsports Silverado failed post-race height requirements and was placed last.
